PICTURE OF THE DAY 10/31/11: HAPPY HALLOWEEN

PROJECT 64: TURQUOISE

This week's Project 64 color is turquoise.  So I thought some actual turquoise would be a good match.

SCAVENGER HUNT SUNDAY

Time for another Scaventer Hunt Sunday!  Here are this week's finds (and yes, it really did snow in Colorado this week).

{Macro}
Yep, it was 15 degrees on Thursday morning.

{Found Texture}
Nothing like a little rust to add some natural texture to your photos.

{Home}
Antique doorknob hardware.  I'd love to know the history behind the homes these came from.

{Cover}
These bags are made from old book and album covers.  I'm kicking myself for not buying one when I saw them.  But there were so many that brought back memories, I couldn't choose.....The Little Engine that Could, The Pokey Little Puppy, The Boxcar Children, Nancy Drew.....and then there was the Donny and Marie album cover bag.

{The Tree}
I thought about posting photos of all the tree damage from this week's snow storm, but that would just be depressing, so here are some trees that didn't lose all of their branches.

You can join the fun over at Ramblings and Photos.  And if you have an extra minute, I'd love for you to check out my new black and white photo project here.

PICTURE OF THE DAY: WEEK 43

This week we went from fall to winter and back again.  Crazy!

I also started a new photo project this week, featuring some of the black and white street photography I've taken over the last few years.  You can find it here.

Happy Halloween!

FORT COLLINS CAPTURED: A HOMETOWN PHOTO PROJECT

Growing up, my family moved every few years.  When I tell people that, they assume my dad was in the military, but his company just transferred him around the country that often.  So when people ask me where I'm from, I never really know how to answer.

I've lived here, in Fort Collins, CO for 12 years. Longer than I ever lived anywhere growing up. So I've started saying that this is where I'm from.

If you've been reading my blog for very long, you know that I love street photography.  And my favorite place for street shots is our historic downtown area, known by the locals as Old Town.  It's full of eclectic local shops, cyclists, musicians, artists and pedestrians.  Maybe you've seen some of my photos of the open air market, the farmers market, the colorful painted pianos.  And the bicycles.....so many bicycles.

Not to mention great downtown events like the Old Town Car Show, the St. Patrick's Day Parade, and the Tour de Fat.  They're all part of the Old Town charm.

I've been thinking for awhile about doing something special with all of my Old Town photos, and I'm finally getting around to it.  I'm calling it Fort Collins Captured, a black and white compilation of my Old Town street photography.  I hope it conveys everything I love about this city.

So far I've posted all of my Old Town photos from 2009 and 2010, and I'm working on 2011.  I hope you'll take a look.  Even better, stop and visit us if you're ever in this neck of the woods.  I think you'll fall in love with this place too.

You can view the entire collection here.

FROZEN

This morning we woke up to find everything covered in sparkly ice crystals.  So I braved the 15 degree temperatures to take a few shots.  I couldn't wait until it warmed up or the ice would have melted!

I'm sharing this one at Favorite Photo of the Week.

SNOW BIRDS

These little birds seem to be enjoying our winter weather.  Right now it's 18 degrees and foggy out, but we should get into the 40's today.  And we'll be back into the 70's for Halloween!  That's typical Colorado weather for you.

Sweet Shot Day

I'm sharing this last one at Shoot. Edit. Submit.  Isn't he cute?

SNOWY SCENE

We got almost a foot of snow in some parts of the city today.

I'm not ready for the cold weather, but this does make me a tiny bit excited to see kids playing hockey out on the lake.

FIRST SNOWFALL

I'll share more photos of our first snowfall of the season soon, but these are definitely my favorites!

Yes, we had school.  Even though we've got about 9 inches so far and it's still coming down.  The roads were so warm from our 80 degree day on Monday that not much stuck to them.

But there's plenty sticking everywhere else.  And it's a wet, heavy snow, so we've got big tree branches down all over the city, and power outages too.  You can read more about that over on my personal blog.

More snow photos coming soon!

PICTURE OF THE DAY 10/24/11: BERRIES

According to the weather man, we've got about 36 hours until everything is covered in snow.  Today might have been my last chance for awhile to get out and enjoy the warm weather.

You can see more of my nature photography here.

PROJECT 64: GOLD

Yes, yes I did pull out the Christmas ornaments for this week's Project 64 color, Gold.  But I promptly put them away as soon as I was finished.

I also pulled them out to snap a few holiday stock photos.  I'm hoping to share more about my experience with stock photography soon.....if I don't get to busy getting ready for the holidays!

PICTURE OF THE DAY 10/23/11: ACORNS

Okay, they are fake acorns, and I paid 25 cents each for them, but they're still cute.  I think the tops are real, but the bottoms are made out of wood.
